Barnet LTC – May 2016 Newsletter

Date Reminders

Please note that on Wednesday 4th May we are hosting a schools’ tournament between 12pm and 3pm. All courts will be unavailable during this time, and there will be restricted access before and after, as the courts are set up/cleared away. Over 40 teams are taking part, which is a great advert for both the sport and our club.

The following day, Thursday 5th May, our clubhouse will be used as a polling station. Whilst members may use the courts, access to the clubhouse will be very limited and, if possible, to be avoided.

Family Bingo Night – Saturday 7th May

Another new event in our social calendar is the Family Bingo Night, taking place on Saturday 7th May. There will be a BBQ from 5pm, with Bingo calling from 6.30pm. Entry is £1 with lots of fun and prizes promised. Please come along and help to make this a success.

Open Days

The LTA are once again sponsoring a number of Open Days at clubs across the UK which they are calling Great British Tennis Weekends. We are taking part in the first of these which take place on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th May. From 2pm to 6pm there will be a timetable of activities for all ages; the idea being that people can come along and try tennis for free, and if they like it, hopefully join our club!

More information can be found on our website, where we have a dedicated page, including a deal for those new members who sign up as a result of attending, and a link to book on to any of the sessions (although people can also just turn up).

There will be light refreshments available on both days. On the Sunday we also have the attraction of two of our men’s teams taking part in matches too (including the 1st team)! Members are welcome to come along to join in the sessions, in particular the adult free play session that is taking place at 5pm.

We have posters up in schools, local supermarkets and libraries and there will be press coverage too. There is a noticeboard full of information in the clubhouse, plus lots of advertising literature, which you are welcome to take away to give to friends, neighbours and colleagues who you think might be interested.

We would be happy for anyone with Twitter accounts to spread the word too.

Please help us to make this a success!

Club Championships 2016

Our summer tournament is underway with 14 events taking place. Please note that the play by date for some rounds is this weekend. You can check on this and all the draws on our website.

Don’t forget you can book court 8 for matches only. Booking sheets in the shed.

Brushing Up

To help keep our courts safe and in good order, please use the court brushes. Courts 1 to 4 can get quite sandy in the dry weather.

May Bank Holiday American Tournament

There is another opportunity to come along to an American Tournament on Monday May 30th. Usual rules apply! 2pm start, £4 fee including teas. These are always well attended and are a great opportunity to play in with other members.

Half term coaching camps

If you are looking for something for your children to do during May half term, why not consider one of the coaching camps run by our coaching team. More information and application forms can be found on the coaching website.

Gate code

As you may know, we change the gate code every year. This is not to try to confuse members, but to keep our club as secure as possible!

This year the code will be changing on the 2nd weekend in May. A text will go out to members informing them of the new number.

Sainsbury’s Vouchers

There are just a few more days to collect Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers. Please bring your secret stashes along to the collecting box in the clubhouse.

Royal flush

Perhaps by now you will have had chance to admire the newly refurbished men’s and ladies’ changing rooms and toilets. This is all part of the improvement plan for our clubhouse. We hope you like them!

Geoff Arnett our website manager does a great job in keeping our website up to date. As well as checking on our Open Days, Tournaments and Coaching, you can also keep an eye on our fixture diary and many other things too. Thank you Geoff!
